All about?
Dilemma of Seetha – in short, that is what Mani Ratnam tries to sell in Raavan. In Mani Ratnam’s Ramayana, Rama is not the hero but the villain.
Plot :
Raavan is not a story, it is a world. Dev (Vikram) falls in love with Ragini (Rai), a spunky classical dancer who is as unconventional as him. They get married and he takes up his new post in Lal Maati, asmall town in northern India. A town where the word of law is not the police but Beera (Bachchan), a tribal who has, over the years, shifted the power equation of the place from the ruling to the have-nots of the area. Dev knows that the key to bringing order to any place is to vanquish the big fish; in this case – Beera. In one stroke Dev manages to rip open Beera’s word, and set in motion a chain of events which will claim lives, change fortunes.
Whats Good :
Choreography by Ganesh Acharya and Action by Sham Kaushal deserves special mention undoubtedly.
Cinematography by Santosh Sivan and V. Manikandan unfolds the story in sheer shimmer all through playing with the various shades of green and available light. Samir Chanda’s Production design is awesome and last but certainly not the least A. R. Rahman’s music effortlessly scores though out of all the songs, only two stands out for their content and singing brilliance.
Ranjha Ranjha (Raavan) Full Song
Story Line :
To begin with, Dev(Vikram) falls in love with Ragini(Aishwarya Rai), a classical dancer, who is as unconventional as him and getting married and by taking up his new post and settling down in a small town in North India, they soon realize that in Town, the police is not the law, but Beera(Abishek Bachan), a tribal leader who has over the years taken up the baton ruling this area.
Dev thinks the un-thinkable and understands that if he has to restore peace bring back the law in its basic form, he has to vanquish the Veera.
Dev does succeed in creating a hole in Veera’s world and in the chain of events Ragini is drawn into the vortex of things and whisked away by Beera into the deepest depths of the jungle with Dev beginning a search for his wife which rolls the story along.
The jungle being dark and scary, entwines the characters into a fascinating journey that becomes their destiny, where each of them will come to face ‘truth’ head-on and their beliefs will be tested, their convictions and emotions will come under the blade which makes the film very intriguing from inside-out.
The jungle practically becomes a battleground, an eternal battle between the Good and the Evil; battle between Ram and Ravan.
