Mobile’s can damage your precious life

We use to do this all the time! I guess I won’t be doing it ANY more !
ATT00001.A few days ago, a person was recharging his mobile phone at home.
Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the charging Instrument still connected to the outlet.
ATT00002.After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud. As you can see,
the phone actually exploded.
His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers.
ATT00003.However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death.
Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet! If you are charging the cell phone and a call comes in, unplug it from the charger and outlet.

Khaleja Movie Review

Movie : Khaleja
Banner: Sri Kanakaratna Movies
Cast: Mahesh Babu, Anushka, Prakashraj, Rao Ramesh, Shafi, Ali, Sunil, Brahmi, Subbaraju, Tanikella, Raghu Babu, M S Narayana, Dharmavarapu, Amit, Veda etc
Music: Mani Sharmaa
Cinematography: Yash Bhatt, Sunil Patel
Director: Trivikram Srinivas
Producers: Singanamala Ramesh, C Kalyan
Release date: October 07, 2010

Story:
A different tale, the story is set on the backdrop of Rajasthan and here comes Raju (mahesh), a taxi driver in search of a family. Here, he meets a TV channel crew member (sunil) and their conversation reveals the flashback story of Raju. In that, there is also his chance meeting with Subhashini (anushka) and how he ends up having trouble due to her. Meanwhile, in a small village of AP, there is Siddappa (shafi) who sets out on a mission to find the one man who is equivalent to god and who can save his village from sure death. After meeting Raju, he realizes that Raju is the man for the cause. And then, there is the powerful businessman GK (prakashraj) who wants to marry his son to Subhashini and has his eye on Siddappa’s village. How are all the dots connected forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:
The director has come up with an ordinary storyline but then it was his presentation and narrative that made the difference. The dialogues were good at many places, the script was alright and the screenplay was above average. Background score was good and three songs were excellent. Cinematography was top notch. Editing was neat. Costumes were fabulous and the art department was apt. Mahesh Babu was a total transformation from his regular image and he has scored the brownie points. Anushka from her end added to the glamour and romance part. Prakashraj was brief but good. Rao Ramesh was excellent, Shafi was very good, Ali and Sunil gave the light moments, Brahmi gave his own share of comedy. Raghu Babu was funny, Subbaraju could have been given some more length in his role, Veda was brief. The others contributed in their own way.
Conclusion:
Given the fact that it was Mahesh’s comeback film, the expectations were very high. While the first half was quite normal and never really revealed the plot, all the flaws got covered up during the second half. The real assets to the film were Mahesh Babu’s performance and the technical values. This is not much of a content driven film and it is more of a rich presentation that works. At the box office, this will be an above average grosser and if word of mouth works then it will become a big hit

Robo Movie Review

Banner: Sun Pictures
Cast: Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai, Danny Denzongpa
Story: S. Shankar, V. Balakumaran, Sujatha Rangarajan
Music: A. R. Rahman
Cinematography: R. Rathnavelu
Editing: Anthony Gonsalves
Director: S. Shankar
Producer: Kalanidhi Maran, Hansraj Saxena
release date:1/10/2010
Story:
Vaseekaran (Rajinikanth), a scientist creates a humanoid robot by struggling around for five years. He even ignores his ladylove Sana (Aishwarya Rai) at times. His creation has several qualities and names it as Chitti (Rajinikanth). That robot could understand the commands orally and could act accordingly like any other human being. It could dance, fight, understand several languages and has good memory. In fact, Vasee wants to handover the robot to Indian Army as it could destroy the enemies and at the same time it can’t be destroyed, because it is fire and water resistant.
When he takes to a panel of scientists, one among them, who was the professor of Vaseekaran (Danny Denzongpa) refuses permission, as the robot doesn’t have judgment and says that it could even kill our own army officers.  Incidentally, Chitti saves several live in a fire accident and in this process, it saves a girl who was taking bath undressed. Unable to bear the humiliation, she commits suicide. The professor tells Vasee to destroy the Robot as it doesn’t have any emotions and it is dangerous. At the same time, he offers millions of dollars to Vasee, if he could hand it over to him.
But, Vasee upgrades Chitti by incorporating the emotions like anger, sorrow, love, kiss what not… Once Sana kisses Chitti and this ignites love in Chitti. When Vasee expresses his love to Sana, Chitti too says he too loves her. After the upgradation, Vasee takes Chitti to the Army officers but, Chitti behaves differently. This irks Vasee and destroys Chitti and dumps in the dust bin. However, Chitti resurrects from garbage and goes to Vasee’s professor to give him a rebirth as he loves Sana. What happens next should be see on-screen.
PERFORMANCE:
Rajinikanth’s performance in both the roles is excellent and his role as a robot is extra-ordinary. No one could do such a character. His stylish actions are very impressive and could be admired not only by his fans but by the common audience. Especially, in the second half, he plays the role with negative shade and has portrayed excellently. Aish has given a wonderful performance. Other artistes like Danny Denzongpa and others have done justice to their roles.

TECHNICAL:
The production values of Sun Pictures could be visualised on the screen and standards are not less than any Hollywood film. Especially the last half-an-hour graphics the film mesmerises the audience. Cinematography by Ratnavelu is ultimate. The train episode and several others were excellently picturised and its a treat to watch. Editing by Anthony is equally good. but the film could have shortened by some 10 to 15 minutes. Action scenes by Peter Haynes are worth watching.
However, the audiences would not feel bored at any given point of time. Dialogues by Sri Ramakrishna are adequate. After a disaster like Puli, AR Rahman has done good work. The re-recording of the film is exceptional and almost all the songs are foot-tapping. The visual effects are spectacular and the graphics are unimaginable.
The screenplay by Shankar is exceptional. It appears each and every inch of the film was visualised before by the director and penned every moment of the film on paper. One can’t find any loophole either in the script (story) or in his directorial ability. However, the only minus point in the film is the poor characterisation of the villain, Danny Denzongpa. While elevating Rajini, the director has completly ignored to etch that character. Kalanidhi Maran should be complimented for taking such an extraordinary project and bringing it on the Indian screen.

komarumThe big budget movie ‘Komaram Puli’ may well have been a disaster at the box office but it sure is helping out few others. The Puli flop has given a breather to the small cinema and the TV circuit, they are now gearing up to release their films. Before that, they are now in the need to book slots across various TV channels.
Usually, when it is a big movie, the channels take special interest in promoting them but when it is not a big movie, the small movies have to run around the channels to ensure that their ads and movie teasers are placed in the proper slot. Even the channels have begun taking ‘Puli’ light.
It is heard that the channels are giving preference to those cinemas which are giving money and this is fetching them good revenues. As for the small films, they have got available slots and they are doing their best to push the movies through this medium

Recording Artist Jennifer Lang Takes Listeners On Chilltastic Ride With New Album Release.

Before this album is even popped into the CD player, one can tell there is something special about Arkansas sweetheart Jennifer Lang. Her bright eyes and smiling face exude pure joy and happiness, qualities not seen that often anymore on the album covers of current female R&B songstresses.
Jennifer Lang’s new album 3 O’clock Saturday is a sultry journey into chilltastic realms. Jennifer’s voice is smooth, soulful and above all else extraordinary! At times her voice puts you in mind of Jennifer Hudson. It’s the kind of voice that’s capable of belting out rafter shaking ballads or sweet melodies whispered to the ear.
Jennifer Lang has a delightful, unassuming personality and her personality carries throughout the album. 3 O’Clock Saturday is her sophomore album and it seems that Lang is contentedly finding her niche. She is at her best when singing in a lower register and maintains exquisite vocal control through ornamental twists and turns. “I like to tap into the feeling of past life experiences and create a story from start to finish”, says Lang.
Jennifer’s style is unquestionably rooted in R&B, but with that said a few tracks off of 3 O’clock Saturday have a bit of a new age meets trip-hop vibe about them. These tracks, “Fairy Tales” and “Hey Love” set her apart from all the rest. These are tracks that Jennifer truly hits her stride. This isn’t to say that her soulful R&B tracks are weak-far from it. Tracks like “Keep Your Head Up” and “Betcha Thought” more than prove that she could go toe-to-toe with such artists as Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Angie Stone.
With 3 O’ Clock Saturday, Jennifer Lang has created a batch of fine listening music. And there’s a clear distinction, by the way, between ‘listening’ music and ‘dance’ music. A lot of R&B music sounds great in a club or booming from a car stereo. But if you attempt to enjoy such sounds in a stationary position, you may become a little restless. In contrast, Lang’s sounds have a calming affect. They make you want to sit back, relax, and take it all in.
Jennifer Lang’s picture on the cover of this CD is sweet and inviting. One look and you will say to yourself, ‘That looks like a nice girl.’ The same thing happens when listening to the music contained within. You’re not just listening to some unknowable singer. Instead, it’s like you’re sitting and letting a good friend sing to you. Without a doubt, 3 O’ Clock Saturday is an appointment you definitely need to keep.

Gayam 2 Movie Review

gayam-2-wallpapers015CAST : Jeeva,Kota Srinivasa rao,Tanikella Bharani,Jagapathi Babu,Vimala Raman
Director : Praveen Sri
Producer : Dr. Dharma Kartha
Music By : Ilayaraja
Banner: Sri Keerthi Creations
Release Date:3\9\2010
Story:
If you missed ‘Gayam’ or have forgotten the story, don’t worry..the first half of the film Gayam 2 winds up with a re-cap or rather a filler of why Jagapathi Babu turns into Ram from Durga. He’s actually explaining to his wife Vimala (Vimala Raman) as to why he’d kept his identity under wraps. The movie moves like a snail showing the hero’s virtuosity at romance, a couple of slow numbers make you wonder if Praveen Sri suffers from a starting problem. So slow is the film that you can actually count the number of cups of coffee Jagapathi Babu had or offered his wife and customers. Luckily Kota Srinivasa Rao as a politician with criminal background stands as a rock giving some credibility to the film, without which one would be questioning the necessity for a sequel.
Kota as Guru Narayan is still nursing the only ambition of becoming a Chief Minister until his son Shankar Narayan sees Durga on television. He wants to bump his old rival off whom the world believes is dead and thus the son and the lawyer (Tanikella Bharani) embark on a journey to Thailand to make sure Ram is Durga. Does the director keep the hero alive to make space for a triology, to know that you got to suffer the ludicruous first part of the film where the characters are written lazily.
[vsw id="8VgBkfdkeZ8" source="youtube" width="425" height="344" autoplay="no"]
Jagapathi Babu does his own part, but the intensity and the volatile look goes missing. He doesn’t have the best lines. Thankfully even after years the film released he looks like Durga and the montage shots of the first part even provides a few minutes of retro thrill. Vimala Raman’s biggest contribution is to look apt, her pairing with Jagapathi Babu is perfect and she comes up with a convincing portrayal of a worrisome wife. Kota Srinivasa Rao doesn’t move from his home, he’s either on his chair or standing and talking over the phone but speedens up the drama, it’s touching to see the scenes involving him and his son (Kota Prasad).
A few dialogues in the drama throws up the irony of life, the actor who played an impetuous and impatient man brought to the fore his natural charm in delivering dialogues or expressions. Tanikella Bharani sparkles as a supportive lawyer. Harshavardhan’s comedy too seems forced. Finally Gayam 2 is a not entirely a vanity project for the hero where he appears in every shot, the fizz of Gayam goes missing, you don’t connect emotionally to the narrative but the director manages to stop the movie from being limp.

Arjun Rampal : My Mom Forced Me To Watch ‘Stepmom’

WEAREFAMILY_thumb
Arjun Rampal would be seen as a central protagonist in ‘We Are Family’, the official adaptation of ‘Stepmom’. Though the actor can’t help but sing praises of this Karan Johar production, he can’t forget the time when he almost skipped watching ‘Stepmom’. The story dates back to more than a decade when this tearjerker starring Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon had just released.
“I wasn’t too inclined to watch the film actually. It just wasn’t my type. I was young and melodrama was definitely out for me. I was planning to hang out with my friends one fine morning when my mom sat me down and asked me to watch ‘Stepmom’”, Arjun gets nostalgic as he remembers how emotionally charged his mom was once she was through watching the film for the first time.
“She wanted to watch it again and make sure that I give her company this time around”, smiles Arjun, “I wasn’t too keen but once I sat down for that, I was in tears in no time. It was a really moving experience as it taught me the value of having a family. There were so many messages as well.”
And what were they? “That hamaari zindagi mein itne saare petty issues hote hain and we give so much importance to them when actually we should be thinking about so much else that life has to offer to us”, Arjun gets emotional here, “One should not take things for granted and instead hold each other’s hands in times of crisis.”No wonder, Karan Johar too shared similar emotions when the final cut of ‘We Are Family’ was ready.

Too much of Rishi Kapoor in Do Dooni Char…..

The common man as the protagonist. His intrinsic moral values. His ability to remain upright even at the risk of facing dire consequences. Rishi Kapoor has been plodding away or rather chugging along on his two-wheeler making the arduous journey from his workplace to his coaching classes in the hope that his kids will one day possess the much-coveted ‘MBA’ degree. But then the best of plans often tend to go haywire…Priorities are redefined and the need for a four-wheeler takes precedence over all else.
Set in a one-bedroom flat in Delhi  Do Dooni Char is successfully recreates the middle-class ethos. The Duggals are a ‘normal’ family. They fight over bathroom rights and hot water. Having non-vegetarian food in the middle of the week is the high point of their lives. And they constantly fantasise about the next luxury durable which might enter their lives (ipod, home theatre or car).
Debut director Habib Faizal manages to draw you effortlessly into ‘the Duggal world’. But the script lacks enough meat to keep you hooked. The simple story gets stretched endlessly in a mindless fashion. One pretty much knows how the film is going to end. But especially in the second half of the film the journey with the Duggals gets monotonous and inane.
Almost the entire film has been shot on location and it goes a long way in giving Do Dooni Char the ‘real’ edge. The cramped flats, the verandahs (from where baskets are lowered to buy veggies) and the pan-stained corridors of the coaching classes.

The kids or teenagers have delivered endearing performances. Aditi Vasudev is a natural. She possesses a certain feminine charm despite her cropped hair and sporty wardrobe and brings raw energy on the screen. Archit Krishna uses his facial expressions to convey fear, disgust, boredom or plain envy. A daunting task to work with veteran Rishi Kapoor in your first film. Yet these two and their clumsy attempts left me with a smile on my face.
Rishi Kapoor even in the second lease of his career has always played the suave rich gentleman (Hum Tum [ Images ], Pyaar Mein Twist, Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi). Or the upper-class producer in Luck By Chance ! Here he’s a middle-class male chauvinist. Does he pull it off? Oh yes. With minimal makeup, a wardrobe which does nothing to disguise his pot belly, and the well-worn helmet (the hallmark of a middle-class life) Rishi Kapoor takes up a new avatar and emerges triumphant.
On the flip side, there is just a little too much of Rishi Kapoor. Ostensibly Do Dooni Char is about the Duggal family. But the director focuses single-mindedly on Rishi Kapoor. The actor fills up the frame and leaves little room for his co-actors. But surely this is not something for which we can blame him? After all it is the director who needs to strike a balance.
It is a pity Neetu Singh chose this film as her comeback vehicle. The director relegates her to the background. She’s just a peg on which Rishi Kapoor hangs his coat. Or maybe that’s the director’s vision of a model housewife. Sad because Neetu Singh is hugely talented and she deserved more.
The film is a must see for all those who enjoy dramas about middle-class morality. And of course Rishi Kapoor fans who are spread across generations. The rest may give this a miss…

Crook releases with its unedited topless scene….

Emraan Hashmi starrer movie Crook-It’s Good To Be Bad, faced a lot of censorship controversy before it got released today. The censor board had asked producer Mahesh Bhatt to edit a topless scene from the film so that it could be certified as a U/A movie. But Mahesh was adamant to keep the scene in the film and for this, he was ready to release the movie with an ‘A’ certificate.
However, the director of the movie, Mohit Suri wanted to get a U/A certificate for his movie so he approached his uncle who is the producer of the film, Mahesh. The censor screening of Crook was done last Tuesday in presence of Mohit Suri and Mukesh Bhatt.
A source was quoted saying that the controversial scene was shot in Australia with an actress named Stella Alan. A drunken Emraan passes out in Stella’s car and finds himself on her bed the next morning, when he wakes up. He gets to see her changing her clothes, when he comes out from the washroom, the source added.
The source further said that in this particular scene, the camera captures the nude backside of the actress
. Mahesh has reportedly tried to justify his decision by saying that a film like Ram Teri Ganga Maili was allowed to show frontal nudity, then, why his film restricted to do so. However, the censor board was not willing to buy his justification and thus rubbished the point.
When Mohit and Mukesh approached Mahesh, he reportedly decided not to compromise with the scene in any circumstances. It is learnt that the actress, who has performed the topless scene, had no issues to shoot it even without a body suit. In fact, the director Mohit Suri proposed to opt for a body suit if the actress was feeling uncomfortable but Stella was fine without it.
Mahesh Bhatt has admitted that he had a spat with Mohit regarding this censor issue but later added that there was nothing wrong in it. Bhatt said that the scene has a dramatic impact and it is very relevant to the film. He said that the young generation expects some sensationalism in the movies so he will prefer keeping the scene and go ahead with an ‘A’ certificate

Movie Review: The Social Network Is Your New Friend

Justin Timberlake, Jesse Eisenberg, The Social NetworkMerrick Morton/Columbia Pictures
A-
Review in a Hurry: It's ironic that only a week after Oliver Stone's Wall Street sequel came out, The Social Network schools the old man by absolutely nailing the new generation of rich jerkwads, in this hip and savvy look at the life of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg).

The Bigger Picture: Admit it, when you heard somebody was making a movie about Facebook, you probably groaned, right? Made some kind of reference to how there needed to be a "Dislike" button you could click? Then when they announced that David Fincher would direct and Aaron Sorkin script, perhaps you had some second thoughts...but still have yet to be won over by those billboards of Eisenberg's scowling face.
Rest assured, this is trademark Sorkin and Fincher all the way, and the only reason not to see the movie is if you already hit the mental dislike button on those two a long time ago. Yes, Fincher misstepped with Benjamin Button, but remember, biopics tend to work better when they're about real people rather than fictionalized saintly figures.
Using the ultra-crisp cinematography afforded by the Red camera, and his trademark darkness and shadows, Fincher follows the progress of Zuckerberg—an antisocial prodigy who can't stop being a smartmouth even when it guarantees him trouble. He goes from the Harvard dorm where he expands upon various existing ideas to create a unifying Facebook, to the heights of success, where he inevitably loses friends and encounters lawsuits from everyone he might conceivably have ripped off in the process.
The Social NetworkColumbia TriStar
Two of these cases—one brought by former best friend and CBO Eduardo Saverin (future Spider-Man Andrew Garfield), and the other by elitist rowing championship twins (Armie Hammer, excellent in both roles), who arguably inspired Zuckerberg early on—frame the flashback action of the film.
The movie's title, especially in that familiar font, is meant to refer to Zuckerberg's famous creation, but it also indirectly refers to the various social networks people travel in at different stages, from the elite clubs at Harvard to the business alliances one makes and breaks later on. Napster cofounder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake) proves instrumental in the latter.
And while some have been skeptical about Timberlake, both haters and fans should appreciate him here: The naysayers can boo him as he plays a despicable character, while supporters can admire the extent to which he's gleefully willing to subvert his own media image.
What will be difficult for some viewers, and likely Academy voters as well, is that The Social Network doesn't really offer anybody to root for. Though there's a forced attempt at a grace note near the movie's end, Zuckerberg as depicted here is not a guy you'd ever want to be friends with, and most of the folks he has run-ins with are even worse; his lack of pretension relative to them is refreshing, but doesn't necessarily make him more likable.
It's a compelling tale regardless, but viewers who prefer clear heroes and villains in their tales might leave dissatisfied.
The 180—a Second Opinion: Sorkin's stereotypical snappy banter, while not overrunning the movie, does dominate at least three key scenes (including the opening). While entertaining, it does draw attention to itself as less-than-realistic.

Movie Review: It's Kind of a Funny Story Actually Kind of a Touching, Quirky Story

Keir Gilchrist, Emma Roberts, It?s Kind of a Funny StoryK.C. Bailey/Focus Features
B+
Review in a Hurry: Feeling mental? Check out this Funny Story of a suicidal teenager (Keir Gilchrest) who checks himself into an adult psychiatric hospital. Aided by solid performances, this offbeat comedy lives up to its title, though it could have stepped a little farther out on the ledge.

The Bigger Picture: Based on Ned Vizzini's novel of the same name, Funny Story plays like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest as interpreted by John Hughes—and with a depressive Ferris Bueller at its center.
But directors-screenwriters Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are running this asylum, where 16-year-old Craig Kilner (Gilchrist) is admitted after becoming overwhelmed by school, dating and other adolescent issues. Craig hopes for a quick fix, but is locked into a minimum five-day stay—and since the youth ward is under renovation, he's sent to stay with the adults.
One of the patients, moody wisecracker Bobby (Zach Galifianakis), takes the new kid under his (wounded) wing and becomes an unlikely mentor and friend. Also helping out is fetching teen and budding love interest Noelle (Emma Roberts), a recovering "cutter" who makes Craig forget his unrequited crush on a best bud's girl.
Boden and Fleck fill in plot bits and break up the sometimes-languid pace with Craig's voice-over/direct address to the camera, as well as animation and fantasy sequences. (The patients' glam-pop performance of "Under Pressure" is especially gratifying.) They use the devices to amusing effect and create a skewed sensibility without straining the quirkiness. Still, given the dark subject matter, the humor might've had a bigger bite if it had veered into a more daring, darker place.
Galifianakis develops a disarming rapport with the sweet, vulnerable (and thankfully not whiny) Gilchrest. The funny schlub—with his well-worn green sweater—slips comfortably into the role of wry observer but also shows surprising sensitivity and restraint in dramatic scenes.
Memorable in smaller roles are Viola Davis, oozing empathy as Craig's therapist; Daniel London as a "Hasidic acid-head" with ultrasensitive ears; and Bernard White as Craig's Egyptian roommate, who's too despondent to get outta bed.

Movie Review: Secretariat as Boring as It Looks

Diane Lane, John Malkovich,SecretariatJohn Bramley/ Disney Enterprises, Inc
C
Review in a Hurry: The true-life account of the "world's greatest racehorse" deserves better than this bland adaptation from the Disney factory. Worthy of the glue factory? Neigh! Secretariat is probably a safe bet for devoted horse-lovers, but others should pony up for a different flick.

The Bigger Picture: Following in the hoofsteps of Seabiscuit, this underdog horse tale chronicles the amazing journey of the 1973 Triple Crown winner. Wobbly Secretariat stumbles over a number of hurdles, though, notably Mike Rich's generic script, which trots out one cliché after another during its long gallop to the finish line.
Dressed in Mary Tyler Moore outfits and a stiff, Pat Nixon-like wig, Diane Lane portrays Denver housewife and mom Penny Chenery, who takes over her deceased dad's stables in Virginia. Despite her lack of horseracing knowledge, she bucks the male-dominated biz and invests in promising colt Big Red, later renamed Secretariat.
She hires veteran trainer Luicien Laurin (John Malkovich) to whip him into shape, and against all odds, they foster the first three-fer Winner in 25 years.
Hardcore racing fans might be disappointed by the film's focus on Penny's home life and investment woes, with banal family scenes involving her skeptical husband and war-protesting daughter. Plus, the film cuts corners on action sequences, depicting the stallion's mounting fame with a single slo-mo shot—and the penultimate race with stock footage on the Chenerys' TV.
Plus, don't expect any gritty portrait of the racing industry—Secretariat is as edgy as a Kentucky Derby bonnet. Scenes are awash in golden light and underscored with voiceover Bible quotes and gospel music. Holy cow, er, horse.
Lovely Lane rises above the cable-movie feel of the production but gets saddled with so many fist-clenching "we've-got-to-win!" speeches that you half expect her to exclaim, "As God as my witness, I'll never go hungry again!"
Not as winning, Malkovich continues his string of over-the-top character roles with a showy turn as the flamboyantly attired crankpot.
The 180—a Second Opinion: It's always good to see Scott Glenn (here as Penny's pa), and as a fun distraction, notice how much—in old-coot makeup—he looks like Lurch from The Addams Family.

Movie Review: Every Baby Movie Ever + Rom-Com Clichés = Life As We Know It!

Katherine Heigl, Josh Duhamel, Life As We Know ItPeter Iovino/Warner Bros. Entertainment
C-
Review in a Hurry: Goo goo gag gag. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel star as bickering singles who become reluctant caregivers to an orphaned infant girl. Overly long Life has a few cutesy moments but is basically a rom-com genetically engineered by development execs.
TWITTER: Follow @eonlineMovies, 'K?
The Bigger Picture: As by-the-numbers as baby's first paint set. As formulaic as a nipple-bottle of Similac. As...well, you get the idea.
In a Battle of the Pepsodent Smiles, pretty caterer Holly (Heigl) and hunky network-sports director Eric (Duhamel) go on a disastrous blind date set up by mutual friends. The lady and the cad can't stand each other, so guess who's gonna be rocking the crib—and by "crib" I mean "bedroom"—before the movie's over.
When the aforementioned friends die in an accident, Holly and Eric learn they've both been named as guardians for goddaughter Sophie. So they attempt to put their differences aside and move into the dead couple's Atlanta home to raise the tiny toddler. Right...
What follows are regurgitated scenes from any baby movie: harried adults being puked on, changing poopy Pampers, feeding/bathing the fussy tot, struggling with strollers, etc.
Of course, Eric grows to love Holly and his new role as Sophie's dad. And Holly has to ultimately choose between romance with Eric—or with Dr. Right, handsome pediatrician Sam (Josh Lucas, showing off his natural Southern accent). Semi-spoiler alert: Can we please place a moratorium on eleventh-hour dashes to the airport?
Life is aimed at the Lifetime crowd, who will "Aww" at all the baby antics and swoon at all the shots of Duhamel putting on/taking off his shirt. The pic seriously overplays the man-candy jokes, with every straight woman and gay man drooling like newborns at the sight of him.
Yes, he and Heigl are easy on the eyes and generate a few sparks. But Life, with its steaming pile of plot contrivances and predictable gags, has all the freshness of a discarded diaper.
The 180—a Second Opinion: Y'all, Melissa McCarthy is a hoot as a busybody belle with a dash of Sugarbaker-style sass. Speaking of, watch for a brief cameo by Designing Women's Jean Smart.
