Demi Lovato Not Pulling a Miley With New Album

Demi Lovato
More from Marc Malkin
When Demi Lovato's next album comes out, she has no plans to take Miley Cyrus' untamed approach, and she won't be ditching her squeaky-clean Disney sheen.
"I don't think it's going to change my image, not drastically," the singer told us at VH1's Do Something Awards about her third album. "It's going to be what you're seeing of me right now. It's going to be very Demi."
The Camp Rock actress, who turns 18 next month, did say...

Green Lantern Scoop & Harry Potter Sneak Peek!

Ryan Reynolds, Green Lantern
Comic-Con 2010
Is work getting in the way of marital bliss for Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds?
For his 2011 superhero debut as the DC Comics hero Green Lantern, Reynolds has been living and breathing all things Hal Jordan for the past several months-but he's married to Marvel superheroine Scarlett Johansson!
"We've had some strongly worded dinners," Reynolds admitted to the standing room-only crowd Saturday at Comic-Con.
But don't worry, folks! The A-list newlyweds manage to keep the peace. "We've probably got a lot more comic books lying around than your average married couple," Reynolds added.
He had plenty more, scoop, too, and so did a surprise Harry Potter guest:

Nevermind! Amanda Bynes Not Retiring After All

Amanda Bynes
Not even two months after heading into retirement, funny girl Amanda Bynes has"unretired," again on Twitter. But why the sudden change of heart?
Maybe there's a clue in Bynes' down-time tweets, some of which sound like a sad romance novel, like this on July 10:
"if you're in love and you don't want anyone else get married immediately"
Whatever the case may be, Bynes was quick to get back into the game by pimping her upcoming movie Easy A on Twitter right after announcing her "unretirement."
Now the only question is—how long until she retires again?

Kings of Leon: Pigeon S--t Happens, Concert Doesn't

Caleb Followill, Kings Of Leon
Sometimes, the show mustn't go on. At least that's what Kings of Leon decided after getting repeatedly dive-bombed by pigeon excrement during a Friday night gig in St. Louis. The "Use Somebody" rockers could have used raincoats, or maybe hazmat suits, for their concert at the Verizon Amphitheater, which they bailed out on after three splatter-tastic songs.
"We couldn't believe what [opening acts] The Postelles and The Stills looked like after their sets," said bassist Jared Followill. "We didn't want to cancel the show, so we went for it. We tried to play [but] it was ridiculous."
And a spokesman for the band spilled more of the dirty details:

More from Watch with Kristin
Once you've conquered "Modern Warfare" and the feat of a conceptual paintballing masterpiece, there's really only one place left to go—and if you're Community show runner Dan Harmon, that place just so happens to be the moon.
If that made absolutely no sense, and we're sure it didn't, Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and Chevy Chase can and did a much better job at explaining what's ahead on the NBC hit's sophomore season today at Comic-Con.
Oh, and did we mention the Community crew totally dominated the Con today with the first standing ovation from the crowd that we've seen thus far?!

Review: Salt a Flavorless, Muddled Mess

425.jolie.salt.23.lc.072110.jpg (425×315)
D
Review in a Hurry: You'd hope an action thriller called Salt might at least have some kick to it and raise your blood pressure a bit. But this muddle, starring Angelina Jolieas a maybe, maybe-not Soviet sleeper spy, isn't as tasty as it is tiresome. Overly complex characters, poorly edited action bits and a pileup of ludicrous twists leave this flick a flavorless mess.
The Bigger Picture: As the movie opens, Jolie's Evelyn Salt is being assaulted by North Koreans, who've stripped her down to her underwear (had to get that gratuitous image into the film somehow!). She pleads that she's just a businesswoman, but when the CIA comes to the rescue, led by her best friend Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber), we learn otherwise—she too is with the agency. Or is she? A Russian defector, who just walks in to their disguised HQ claiming to have information, casually drops the fact that he's heard a Russian spy named Evelyn Salt is going to Washington to kill the Russian president. (Yes, the trailer cleverly recut the scene to imply that the American president was the target.)
Rather than stick around to calmly talk things through, Salt promptly busts out of CIA HQ and heads straight for Washington, which does little to dissuade folks that she's not a dangerous traitor. We learn that whatever Salt is mixed up in has something to do with sleeper agents, people brainwashed as children in the then-Soviet Union and placed in the United States to one day rise up as adults and overthrow the nation.
Director Phillip Noyce has a mixed track record when it comes to this kind of stuff. His fact-based The Quiet American was solid, as was his breakthrough thriller Dead Calm. But that résumé is also dotted with star-driven duds like Sliver and The Saint, and his Jack Ryan movies were the least interesting two of that four-film Tom Clancy franchise. Given he's at his weakest when he works on big Hollywood celebrity projects, it may not be too much of a surprise that he falters here as well. But in all fairness, any director would have been severely challenged by the material.
The crux of the entire thing is that we don't know what's going on inside our main character's head, which makes her impossible to identify with or relate to. This can work if the folks opposing her are compelling and identifiable, but they are neither: Chiwetel Ejiofor turns in an uncharacteristically generic and lazy performance as the skeptical Peabody, while Schreiber only serves to remind us that he was in a more official Manchurian Candidate remake.
Add to that action sequences that rely too heavily on close-ups and not enough on establishing who's doing what to whom and sloppy editing: At one point, Salt approaches a large, impenetrable-looking door that's just about to close. We want to know how she can possibly get through, but then the camera cuts away, and next time we see her, Salt is already on the other side.
Also, it's apparently quite easy for a trained killer to just walk into the White House during a time of national crisis and nearly start a nuclear war. All those Bond villains were wasting a lot of time and money, it would seem.
The 180—a Second Opinion: A scene in which Jolie uses prosthetics to disguise herself as a man is (intentionally) hilarious. She looks like Darrell Hammond impersonating Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Review: Ramona and Beezus a Wise and Whimsical Good Time

Selena Gomez, Joey King, Ramona and Beezus
B+
Review in a Hurry: Ramona and Beezus is really more about Ramona, but since star Selena Gomez plays Beezus, her marquee mention must have been a requirement from the suits in the corner office. One thing the executives didn't ruin, however, was the movie itself, which is surprisingly wise and whimsical.
The Bigger Picture: Movie marketing is a production in and of itself. The producers wanted to make the first big-screen adaptation of Beverly Cleary's beloved Ramona books, but they needed to sell tickets too. Thus, Ramona likely became Ramona and Beezus, capitalizing on Gomez's tween star power. Beezus is certainly part of the story, but so is Aunt Bea (Ginnifer Goodwin), Mrs. Meacham (Sandra Oh, having prim fun) and especially Robert Quimby, Ramona's dad (John Corbett). All these characters orbit Ramona and her misfit adventures, stumbles and triumphs.
Fans of the book may think Ramona and Beezus is based solely on the book Beezus and Ramona, but the movie combines elements from many, if not all, of the Ramona books (further confusing the viewer who may or may not tearfully cling to her childhood memories of those precious books...ahem). Reassuringly, the varied story lines, from Aunt Bea's run-in with an old flame to Robert's employment issues, all elegantly intertwine.
The actors gracefully settle into their roles, and they all really seem like family as they relate to each other. Relative unknown Joey King, as Ramona, is on the right side of precocious, using her adorableness in carefully measured doses. She easily carries the movie.
The marketing of Ramona and Beezus may have the gloss of Hollywood, but the material stays true to the magic of Cleary's books—namely, their ability to expose not just the imperfect moments of middle-class family life, but the pockets of unexpected beauty as well. Whatever its name, Ramona and Beezus just happens to be a good movie.
The 180—a Second Opinion: Director Elizabeth Allen almost loses us with a slow-paced, cliché-ridden beginning. The flick picks up the pace and interest as it gets going, so be patient.

(Mostly) Spoiler-Free Review: Inception a Total Dream

Leonardo DiCaprio, Inception
A
Review in a Hurry: It's tough to review a movie when everyone you mention the title to sticks their fingers in their ears and goes "LALALALA! No spoilers!" So all we'll say to those folks is that Inception's a smartly scripted, big-budget action/heist movie of the sort you'd expect from the director of The Dark Knight.
If that's not enough for you, keep reading, and we'll go easy on spoilers:
The Bigger Picture: Though there will undoubtedly be (valid) comparisons made to The Matrix andSolaris, a more blatant antecedent for Inception is Joseph Ruben's 1984 thriller Dreamscape, in whichDennis Quaid must enter the President's nightmares to prevent an assassin from doing likewise. Here, the rules are more complicated, but the basic idea is the same—infiltrate a dream in order to effect (or prevent) global change.
In this case, the man whose subconscious is to be plumbed is wealthy heir Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy), whose name-resemblance to a certain famous chess player is surely no coincidence. While the team members assembled for the job by master dream-weaver Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) are generally expert at finding secrets within the mind, the trick here is to pull off the far more delicate trick of inception. Planting an idea so deeply and cleverly into Fischer's subconscious that he believes it to be his own.
What is important is that Cobb brings his own subconscious baggage, which threatens to influence the dream reality in unintended, detrimental ways. And unlike in Dreamscape or the Freddy Krueger movies, dying in the dream doesn't mean death in reality, but it can mean that your mind takes a trip into a devastating limbo from which it may never return.
Other aspects of dream logic prove equally novel here, particularly regarding the passage of time in dreams, and the way external stimuli influence the gravity of the situation, literally and figuratively. (Those twisty-floaty corridor fights you saw in the trailer are every bit as awesome as promised.)
It's also instructive to note that director Christopher Nolan makes far more effective use of DiCaprio as a man with a dark secret than Martin Scorsese did in Shutter Island, or ever.
Amid an all-star cast that also includes Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, and Tom Berenger, it's the less-known Tom Hardy (Bronson) who steals the show, as the one guy who seems to know more about inception than Cobb. (He may not have been the best Star Trek villain ever, but he'll make a fine Mad Max.)
Nolan's script, meanwhile, is smart enough—without being impenetrable—that it gives you hope for any possible Batman sequel involving the Riddler. And Hans Zimmer's score may give you chills.
The 180—a Second Opinion: One of the main dreams involves an arctic setting resembling a Metal Gear Solid game, and sees every character covered head-to-toe in identical white outfits. This can at times get as infuriating to follow as the blurry, brown fight scenes in Batman Begins.

Twilight and True Blood Vamps Battle at Comic-Con

Stephen Moyer, Cam Gigandet
Comic-Con 2010
Are Twilight's vampires hotter than True Blood's? If the scream-o-meter Friday evening was any indication, Comic-Con's Twi-hard contingent was still in full force, even if The Twilight Saga had no official presence at the convention for the first time in three years.
Hall H patrons got their vampire fix at Sony's panel for Priest, the fantasy-action adaptation that stars Paul Bettany as a vampire-slaying holy man. Joining Bettany on stage before a packed house were two men better known for their other bloodsucker projects: Twilight's Cam Gigandet and True Blood's Stephen Moyer.
The double dose of hot male vamps had wannabe fangbangers shrieking, but which guy got the loudest catcalls?

Special treatment, indeed.

Which might be good news for Lindsay, considering dad Michael Lohan had said he wanted to make the pilgrimage despite not being on the approved-visitors list.

From Tiger Woods' well-publicized missives to the latest twist in the Mel Gibson drama to David Boreanaz's alleged penile pictogram, you've got to wonder just how invincible these people think they are to be sending digital evidence to be used against them in, if not a court of law, then at least the court of public opinion.

Lindsay Lohan should be glad to be in jail, there's no texting allowed behind bars...
